I founded Girls Be Strong to create a future where every girl in Uganda is free from the shackles of child marriage, has access to quality education, and receives adequate support for their health needs.
"Mel's Makerspace" is a website that showcases my focus in innovation, compassion, and a dedication to improving health, such as those with sickle cell disease (SCD).
In this website, I recorded my journey to make a meaningful impact in the lives of SCD patients, providing them with the research, local partnership, development of a SCD monitoring device, and data they need to pave the way for better health and a brighter future.
This website organizes my scientific and research experience thus far. Among the various experiences I have, I highlighted 3 specific works.
As a scientist, I have been a student researcher at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore under Professor Nam-Joon Cho for three years. I have also won national science competitions and competed twice in the Regeneron ISEF as a finalist.
Also conducting research at the University of Chicago and national laboratory spaces, I have expanded my horizons to foster my dream of becoming a physician-scientist.
